GF schools move special election voting site

When Grand Forks voters head to the polls in September to decide the fate of a new Valley Middle School they won’t be casting ballots at the Alerus Center.

The school board voted this week to move the single site special election to the Fritz Pollard Athletic Center on the UND campus. Superintendent Terry Brenner says the Alerus Center isn’t available on            September 27th.

Brenner says staff did a site visit to the building at 2419 2nd Avenue North.  “We are really confident we can keep it on one level…the mezzanine level.  We saw how voting booths can be set up…how people register.   People won’t need the stairs or elevator…we think it’s going to work.”

Brenner says they’ve also been assured that parking won’t be an issue.

Voters will be asked to approve a $55 million dollar bond issue to be spread over 20 years.
