UND forms Office of Teacher Recruitment/Retention

By Pat Sweeney May 25, 2022 | 2:25 PM

In response to teacher shortages throughout North Dakota and the US…  UND has announced a plan to recruit and retain qualified teachers across the state.

The University is launching the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Retention, which plans to be fully staffed by this summer… and starting new initiatives in the fall.

The College of Education and Human Development will head the effort.

UND says, according to the US Department of Education, teacher shortages in North Dakota span several areas, including early childhood and elementary education…  math…  social studies…  and health and physical fitness.

The University says declining enrollment in teacher education programs in recent years, combined with various impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, have contributed to the current crisis.
