Fallen law enforcement honored in GF

By Doug Barrett May 18, 2022 | 10:14 AM

Law enforcement from around the region paused Tuesday to honor fallen officers from the Northern Red River Valley. It was the 10th annual memorial held on the lawn outside the Grand Forks County Courthouse. The event included a reading of fallen officers…the playing of taps…and a 21 gun salute.

Retired Grand Forks Sheriff Bob Rost delivered the keynote address. Rost also updated those in attendance on progress being made at the Northern Valley Law Enforcement Memorial in Optimist Park. The memorial will pay tribute to law enforcement who had died in the line of duty from northeastern North Dakota….northwest Minnesota…and Manitoba.

According to 2021 stats 618 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty. Over the years 66 North Dakotans have lost their lives in the line of duty.
