GF school enrollment to grow…slowly

By Doug Barrett May 11, 2022 | 9:00 AM

Student enrollment in the Grand Forks School District will fluctuate in the next five years before settling at around 7,500 – up 70 from current levels. Demographer Rob Schwarz of RSP and Associates delivered the latest re-port to school board members this week.

Schwartz says fewer live births…combined with movement within the city…plus new housing developments could cause capacity issues at certain schools. To help even things out Schwartz says one option is always to redraw boundaries.  “There may be needs to have things like enrollment capping and changing where some of the special programs are from year to year.”

Schwartz says the greatest growth in the next five years will be among elementary students. High school enrollment is also expected to in-crease – while the number of middle school numbers decrease slightly.
