GF & EGF monitoring bridge closures

By Doug Barrett May 4, 2022 | 1:51 PM

There’s a slight chance the Point Bridge could reopen to traffic by the end of the week.

Grand Forks and East Grand Forks officials will compare notes in the coming days to see when the southernmost river crossing can reopen to traffic after being closed by flood waters.  Bridge inspectors could utilize a drone to look at the downtown Sorlie Bridge as soon as this weekend.

The bridges are inspected for safety before the barricades can come down.  The rate of decline on the river will also determine the timing of the inspections.

The Red River in Grand Forks / East Grand Forks continues to slowly fall.  At the current rate the “Red” is projected to drop below moderate flood stage of 40 feet by next Wednesday.  The river crested this week at 45.42 feet…flood stage is 28.
