The Grand Forks School Board will hold a public forum tonight (Monday) to talk all about education and district needs.
Topics will range from enrollment and programs to tax levies and deferred maintenance.
Participants will also be asked to weigh in on district priorities like replacing Valley Middle School and maintenance at Schroeder Middle School. The price-tag for those projects alone total $55 million and $21 million respectively – with the Valley build including a district-wide Child Nutrition facility.
At the last board meeting member Amber Flynn says the forum is only asking for feedback at this time. “It will say on this document we are just asking for feedback and people will put this on Facebook and say the district is coming to us and asking for $96 million dollars and this is what we are going to do. It could be taken out of context.”
The board’s Bill Palmiscno says the costs of the various projects is a concern. “Let’s remember the majority of those who come to these forums are our supporters. They are not the “no” voters out there and I think we need to be careful how we interpret what response we get at this forum.”
At last check over 270 people have pre-registered for the meeting. It gets underway at 7:00 p.m. at South Middle School.
