Fatal fire in GF under investigation

Authorities are trying to identify a body found in an early morning apartment fire in downtown Grand Forks.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to a call at 21 South 4th Street around 4:15 a.m.  Altru paramedics were dispatched as well.  

Upon arrival crews were able to visibly see smoke in the apartment complex.  Firefighters entered the building and located one deceased victim inside. They quickly extinguished the flames without further incident.  There is no known ongoing danger to other people or property from this incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.   A damage estimate was not immediately available.  Authorities say this is an open and ongoing investigation.  Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, is encouraged to contact the Grand Forks Police Department.
