As temps warm RRV flood threat goes down

By Doug Barrett Mar 22, 2022 | 9:11 AM

The flood threat for the Red River Valley has been downgraded.

Recent snowmelt conditions have allowed the National Weather Service to scale back the severity of the season from major to minor or moderate.

The NWS now expects a crest of 38.5 feet for Grand Forks / East Grand Forks next week.  That’s still ten plus feet over flood stage – but down from a 50-50 guess of 44.4 feet just a few weeks ago.

Despite the lower prediction Grand Forks officials are monitoring the situation.   Crews have been clearing ice from culverts and the city has an inventory counted 184,000 empty sandbags.  At this time no city streets or bridges are expected to close.

Fargo is looking at a crest this weekend at under 30 feet.
