
The spring thaw season is underway up and down the Red River Valley. The National Weather Service expects generally favorable melt conditions to continue for the next few days – with things picking up next week.
The 8 to 14 day outlook predicts near normal temperatures with slightly above normal precipitation. Normal temperatures for the last week of March across the Grand Forks-East Grand Forks area has highs ranging from 35 to 43 degrees and lows 24 to 28 degrees.
Satellite images show the darker areas of increasing snow-free ground along the corridor of the central Red River Valley. There are lighter snow-covered areas at the far north and south portions of the valley and along the east and west bench and upland areas.
According to the NWS a few far southern basin rivers and streams could start to see open flow early next week.
