Grand Forks will once again utilize drones to chase gulls…geese…and coots away from lagoon ponds this spring and summer to help reduce potential bird strikes at the nearby GFK.
The City of Grand Forks owns 1,356 acres of lagoons near the Grand Forks International Airport.
Operators will make daily observations in identifying nesting or stationary birds and move them to a non-threatening area.
According to a Wildlife Services Report there were 13 assumed or confirmed bird strikes reported to FAA in 2021.
The city has been utilizing the drone mitigation effort since 2018. The proposed contract with iSight Drone Services is not to exceed $60,000 dollars. The city council is expected approve the dollar amount tonight (Monday).
