GF schools target priority facility needs

By Doug Barrett Mar 1, 2022 | 8:11 AM

The Grand Forks School Board will likely go the route of bonding to finance immediate facility needs in the district.

The board reached consensus on the idea to tap $1 million dollars out of the new $2.5 million captured through the voter approved 10 mill increase for bonding over 20 years.  The money will finance a series of projects totaling over $15 million dollars.

Still to be decided is future referendums to deal with the district’s three aging middle schools – with Valley being a top priority.  Board member Bill Palmiscno says he doesn’t believe lumping all three projects in the same referendum is the way to go.

Member Jeff Manley says there are pro’s and con’s to a single vs multiple referendums.

The district will seek public input during a public forum to talk all things school on March 28th.

The selections follow a reorganization of the athletic department including the hiring of Michael Biermaier as District Activities Director.
