A 37 year old man is hospitalized after being shot by deputies of the Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department this morning.
Authorities responded to a vehicle that crashed into the ditch on the 800 block of County 81 shortly before 11:30 a.m. While en route dispatch notified the deputies that they received a call from a nearby homeowner who reported a male breaking into their house. The female stated the suspect was by her vehicle and had a gun.
According to the GFSO when deputies arrived on scene the male repeatedly refused commands to drop the weapon. The suspect continued to approach them which resulted in the deputies firing their sidearms.
According to authorities the suspect was struck and fell to the ground. Deputies secured the weapon and provided aid. The Grand Forks man was transported to Altru Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The deputies have been placed on administrative leave – standard procedure in an officer involved shooting. The incident remains under investigation. The name of the suspect who was shot has not been released.
