Storms continue to cause problems in the Red River Valley

Snow and blowing snow is being blamed on a 14 vehicle collision Monday west of Mapleton on I-94.  The crash involved six semi-trucks and eight passenger vehicles.

Visibility was zero at times.  The crash resulted in six injuries and blocked both west bound lanes.  One 69-year old female from Casselton sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.  The west bound lanes were shut down for five hours while emergency responders removed vehicles.

During the morning and afternoon hours the North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to multiple motorist assist calls and crashes on I-29 and I-94.

Winter Storm warnings remain in place Valley City through Fargo-Moorhead and into MN lakes country for light snow and wind gusts 35 mph causing near blizzard conditions in open country. Winter Weather advisories for light snow and blowing snow for the mid Red River valley to Bemidji. Wind chill headlines out for dangerous wind chills rest of the area into Wednesday.

The latest blast caused numerous schools throughout the region to close or start two hours late.  East Grand Forks was among the district’s opting for the late start to give plows a chance to clear rural roads before buses ventured out.
