By Pat Sweeney Feb 7, 2022 | 4:43 PM

A fire this (Mon) morning at a Grand Forks apartment complex forced one tenant to relocate.

Grand Forks Fire officials say crews were called to 506 North 48th Street shortly after 9:00 AM on a report of heavy smoke in the building.

The first engine companies arriving encountered heavy smoke on the first and second floors of the three-story complex.  All occupants exited safely.

A fire was located between the first and second floors of the structure.  Crews removed part of the ceiling and were able to extinguish the fire.

The Grand Forks Fire Marshal, with assistance from the City’s Electrical Inspection office, determined the cause as a malfunction of electrical wire.

The building sustained moderate damage from the fire. No injuries were reported.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with 19 personnel, consisting of one command vehicle, five fire engines, and one ladder truck.
