Red River Valley slowly improving from latest blizzard

By Doug Barrett Feb 1, 2022 | 6:41 AM

A Blizzard Warning for Grand Forks has been replaced by a Winter Weather Advisory until 8:00 p.m.  A Blizzard warning continues for portions of West Polk…Kittson…Roseau…West Marshall …Pembina and Walsh counties.

Northwest winds this morning sharply reduced visibility down to 1/4 mile or less. That was enough to cancel classes in most area schools including Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.  A No Travel Advisory has been replaced with a Travel Alert for the immediate Grand Forks area.  A No Travel Advisory is still posted for counties near the Canadian border.

The National Weather Service reported 1.9 inches of snow (7 a.m. reading).  A wind gust of 51 mph was recorded at the Grand Forks Airport (GFK).  A top speed of 70 was recorded near Devils Lake.

The highest weather impacts will occur through around midday before tapering off this afternoon.
