A committee of the state Board of Higher Education has been authorized to look at hiring a consultant to determine if North Dakota’s college and university presidents are paid in-line with leaders of other similarly-sized institutions in our region.
The board discussed the hiring of a consultant during an executive session. But after the Board went back into open session, a motion to make such a hire failed for a lack of a second. The Board then gave the authority to its Budget and Finance Committee.
The Committee chair – Tim Mihalick – says there also was discussion about broadening the study to include the NDUS central office staff – but for now, he says the focus will be on the presidents.
Mihalick says the committee might also decide not to hire an outside consultant.
