Walz proposes legalizing recreational pot in MN

By Pat Sweeney Jan 26, 2022 | 5:22 PM

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is proposing that the state legalize recreational use of marijuana.

Walz’s supplemental budget recommendation includes a new Cannabis Management Office to implement the regulatory framework for adult use of cannabis, along with the medical cannabis program.

Walz’s proposal includes a tax on marijuana…and would provides for expungement of non-violent offenses involving cannabis.

The governor says Minnesota needs modern solutions to harness the benefits of legalizing cannabis, including expanding the economy, creating jobs, allowing law enforcement to focus on violent crime, and regulating the industry in order to keep kids safe.
