Funding special events in Grand Forks could be getting a financial shot in the arm. The city council is considering a plan that would nearly double the 2022 budget of $130,851 dollars. C-V-B Director Julie Rygg says over $43,000 dollars has already been committed with an estimated spending impact of $4.2 million dollars. “We can’t award anything close to what they need…not just what they want.”
The discussion was part of a larger “ask” for dollars to help promote a series of downtown concerts this summer.
Council member Jeannie Mock says she wishes there was a better process for supporting the various requests.
City staff will bring back a funding plan for the events budget in early February.
