Travel Alert means conditions are such that motorists can still travel in these areas, but should be advised of rapidly changing winter driving conditions.

‘Travel Alert’ has been issued for the following counties.

Counties: Grand Forks, Griggs, Nelson, Pembina, Steele, Walsh
Road Conditions: Icy Roads
Weather Conditions: Freezing Rain, Blowing Snow

The Polk County (MN) Sheriff’s Office has announced that no travel is advised on the Highway 2 corridor or County Roads from East Grand Forks to Mentor due to high winds and blowing snow.

There is little to no visibility in open areas.  And with approaching snow, the conditions will continue to deteriorate throughout the day.

Motorists are advised to stay home if you can.

If you must travel, use extreme caution.

Altru Health System Weather-Related Closures and Announcements
Grand Forks, N.D. — For the safety of our patients and employees, the following locations have adjusted hours or are closing today, January 21:
• Altru Clinic Erskine – Closed at Noon
• Altru Clinic Thief River Falls – Closing at 3:30 p.m.
• Altru Clinic Crookston – Closing at 3:30 p.m.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE: WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE REGION UNTIL 3 PM CST THIS
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow
  accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 45
  mph.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest Minnesota and northeast and
  southeast North Dakota.

* WHEN...Until 3 PM CST this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing
  snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the morning commute. The cold wind
  chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed
  skin in as little as 30 minutes.
