Active cases of COVID-19 in North Dakota have climbed to their highest level since November 25th of 2020.

The state health department identified 2,631 new cases of COVID in today’s health dashboard.  That pushes the active case count to 7,463.  The daily positivity rate stands at 18.78%.

NDSU Infectious Disease specialist Dr. Paul Carson says the numbers show the importance of getting vaccinated.  Carson says although taking the shot doesn’t guarantee 100% protection it offers you the best chance against major illness and hospitalization.  “You get a breakthrough infection and land in the hospital…that’s a rare event…but your length of stay in North Dakota with recent data is 5.4 days.  That’s compared to an unvaccinated person who has an average 13.5 length of day stay.”

The state dashboard confirmed 278 positive hits out of Grand Forks County – pushing the active case count to 794.

At last check 60.3% of the Grand Forks County population has been fully vaccinated.
