Blood banks looking for a few good donors

By Doug Barrett Jan 13, 2022 | 7:52 AM

With blood-bank supplies at a ten-year low, the American Red Cross has declared a “national blood crisis” for the first time in its 140-year history.

Nationwide blood donations are down 30% when compared to before the COVID pandemic.  The Dak Minn Blood Bank in Grand Forks experienced a similar trend in 2021.  The bank provides more than 90 percent of the blood products needed for transfusions at Altru each year.

All blood donations at Dak Minn Blood Bank support the communities of Grand Forks, Northwood, McVille, Rugby and Cavalier, N.D.

January is National Blood Donor Month.
