The cost to treat the stuff that comes out of your tap and goes down the drain is going up. The Grand Forks council approved bids last night (Monday) for treating water and wastewater.
Water Treatment Plant Manager John Goetz says unfortunately the numbers are headed in the wrong direction. “Our citric acid and chlorine are two of the big ones…376% increase and chlorine 163% increase.”
Goetz says the cost fluctuations are influenced by shortages of raw materials,
demand for the product in other markets, and the cost of transportation.
The total bid price on the chemicals is $2.19 million dollars – or over $610,000 higher than 2021 costs.
