A father and son were rescued from a floating sheet of ice on the Red Lake Reservation in northwest Minnesota on Tuesday.
The Red Lake Police Department and conservation officers were notified of the stranded fishermen shortly before noon. When emergency teams arrived on the scene they found a large amount of open water between the main body of ice and the ice that drifted away.
Mutual Aid was requested from the Bemidji Fire Department and 62-year old David Berrard of Red Lake (MN) and 44-yerar old Wildred Berrard of Blaine (MN) were rescued without injury.
Authorities are reminding the public about the dangers of fishing on new ice with high winds.
