The Grand Forks School Board hasn’t given up on the idea of a new middle school on the city’s north side. During a work session last night (Monday) members reached consensus that if and when the time comes for a new school it would be at the Valley Middle School site.
Voters in June rejected a plan to combine two elementary schools and a middle school into a single campus at Valley.
The work session was part of a budget realignment process designed to identify priorities within the district’s strategic plan.
One of the goals is to achieve an ending fund budget balance of 10% by 2024 and 15% by 2026.

The Grand Forks School District has agreed to go the route of a construction manager at-risk for the proposed Career Impact Academy project.
The so-called CMAR complies with North Dakota Century Code due to the size of the project…the complexity of new construction…and volatility in the construction market. A committee will evaluate firms interested in the position.
An RFQ is slated to go out Wednesday – two-weeks before the application deadline on state grant money for Career and Technical Education capital projects.
The proposed $20 million dollar Grand Forks CIA project would be located near Gateway Drive and I-29 at the site of the former Grand Forks Inn and Suites. Construction is not expected to begin until the spring of 2023.
