Altru Health still eyeing expanded service in Devils Lake

Altru Health has signed a letter of intent to purchase 50 acres of land for a future hospital facility in Devils Lake.

In July Altru officials announced a series of listening sessions in Devils Lake to seek public input on plans to purchase the existing St. Alexus Hospital. An Altru spokesperson says there are no plans to acquire St. Alexus at this time. The land in question is on the east side of the city.

The plan also includes expanded outpatient services and a 12-bed dialysis center at the current D-L Altru Clinic. Other areas of focus will include: women’s services…orthopedics…oncology….cardiology…and pharmacy.

In a prepared statement Altru’s President Dr. Steven Weiser says the goal is to greatly enhance healthcare in Devils Lake.

The statement goes on to say that construction of the regional hospital in Grand Forks and expansion of care in Devils Lake is part of the overall strategy to improve access to state-of-the art facilities in Grand Forks and throughout the region.
