The Grand Forks School Board will chip in another $500,000 dollars to help bring a Career Impact Academy to town.
Supporters are trying to raise $10 million dollars to match a state grant for building the complex near I-29 and Gateway Drive. Keith Lund of the Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation told the board last night (Monday) that over $7 million has been raised to date.
Doug Carpenter who chairs the board’s Finance Committee says “If we did not have ESSER money there’s no way we would be able to do this project.”
Business Manager Scott Berge says $400,000 dollars of the additional ESSER funds can be realized through a smaller than anticipated payment to the state for software upgrades.
Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Catherin Gillach says the CIA is a once in a lifetime investment for students. “When you think about the social cost of one dropout that’s a cost that can’t be captured on a spreadsheet.”
The donation is on top of a previous one-million that is a cost that can’t be captured on a spreadsheet.”dollar commitment by the school board. The deadline to apply for the state grant is December 1st.
