Thousands of hunters wearing blaze orange will hit the fields on both sides of the river this weekend for the start of the 2021 deer gun season. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department issued 72,200 licenses this fall – an increase of 3,150 over the 2020 tally.
Outreach Biologist Jim Job says one change hunters need to be aware of is the start of so-called electronic posting of land.
Job says he expects hunters to report some good harvest numbers. “We strike for that 70% success rate.”
EHD is a viral disease transmitted by biting gnats that is often fatal to deer. Job says the department has issued refunds on about 1,000 deer tags to date.
North Dakota’s 2021 deer gun season opens Friday at noon. Minnesota’s firearms deer season begins half an hour before sunrise on Saturday.
