EGF talks park plan one repair at a time

By Doug Barrett Nov 4, 2021 | 8:46 AM

There’s a little bit of good news and a little bit of bad as East Grand Forks Park and Rec leaders prepare to launch a series open houses to discuss a facility improvement plan.
The $37.4 million dollar investment focuses primarily on four facilities: The Civic Center…VFW Arena…Blue Line Club Arena…and Stauss Park.  The city has floated the idea of a sales tax to fund the upgrades.

Parks Superintendent Reid Huttunen says just this week a backup compressor at the Civic Center decided to act up.  “The secondary compressor that cycles on and off throughout the day…a couple of pistons blew on it.  Now the good news with that is it was an eight cylinder and it is now operating as a six cylinder…and is operating better than an eight…so far.”

Huttunen says the maintenance company hired to do a retrofit next spring has a spare compressor in the shop if needed.

The open houses will be held on the following days and locations:
November 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the VFW Memorial Arena…
November 16th at the Civic Center…
November 30th at City Hall…
