East Grand Forks officials are asking residents to help decide the size and scope of a road reconstruction project at 5th Avenue Northwest and 20th Street Northwest. The 48-year old roadway has fallen into disrepair over the years.
There are currently two options on the table: one involving asphalt and the other a concrete street. The price-tag ranges from $1.5 to $1.9 million dollars. In addition the city is looking to replace underground water and sewer lines which will add another $1.1 million dollars to the final bill.
Mayor Steve Gander says adjacent property owners will help pay for the reconstruction so it’s important they weigh in on the plan. “Sometimes we come into the hall and it’s full of people and we can be thinking this is going to be contentious. This time it’s different and we want to see a full house and your comments on the paving project. So fill the hall.”
The council voted 5-2 to advance the plan last night (Tuesday). A public meeting to discuss the project is scheduled for December 7th at six p.m.
