St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell will resign his position next June.
In a social media post, Axtell said he will not pursue a second term when his current six-year appointment ends.
Axtell has spent more than 30 years with the department. He has been chief since 2016.
Axtell called it “a difficult decision, made after spending the last few months in deep reflection.”
He added: “I know that it’s time to move on to serve my community in another manner.”
Axtell said, “With so much internal talent, your police department’s future is in good hands.”
