As supporters of a Career impact Academy continue to raise funding to secure a $10 million dollar state match the City of Grand Forks is a step closer to donating the land on which the facility will be built. The council last night gave preliminary approval to donating a parcel near Gateway and I-29 for the CIA.
Director of CTE Education Eric Ripley told council members that student surveys show solid interest in the program.
The city is also looking to spend $444,000 to raze the former Grand Forks Inn and Suites building that sits on the site. At last count around $5.5 million dollars has been raised for the project. The deadline to apply for the state funding is December 1st.

In other council notes members reviewed a development agreement for the downtown Lyons project. The six story structure near city hall would feature mixed use businesses on the first floor including: food…professional…and boutique shops. The upper floors would house 110 to 115 market rate apartments. A parking lot swap is also in the works to make the project fit.
