By Doug Barrett Oct 19, 2021 | 7:58 AM

A University of North Dakota student was killed in a small plane crash near Buxton last night.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports the plane went down in a field around 8:30 p.m.  The pilot suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.

UND President Andy Armacost says the community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of sophomore John Hauser, 19, of Chicago (IL) who was majoring in Commercial Aviation.

The UND aerospace school has cancelled all flight activities. Robert Kraus, dean of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, ordered a “safety stand down,” halting all flight activity Tuesday.

The University is making counseling assistance available to those who need to support.  Armacost calls it a tragic time for Hauser’s family and friends.

The NDHP and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash.
