
Supporters hoping to land a Career Impact Academy in Grand Forks made a pitch Tuesday to County Commissioners for $1.5 million dollars in funding. It’s part of an overall plan to secure $10 million dollars from the state along with a dollar for dollar local match. The goal is to raise $5 million from public sources and $5 million from private sector businesses.
A recent labor market survey suggests 84% of 117 employers throughout Grand Forks County report workforce shortages make recruiting employees somewhat or very difficult.
The goal of the CIA is to provide hands-on training for K-12 students and adult learners.
The former Grand Forks Inn and Suites has been identified as a potential site for the facility. On Monday the city council agreed to spend $444,000 dollars to demolish the former Inn.
The commission took no immediate action on the funding request.
