Opioid treatment center coming to GF

By Doug Barrett Sep 21, 2021 | 8:24 AM

Federal and state funding is being targeted to bring an opioid treatment program to Grand Forks.  Community Medical Services is looking to set up shop at the Turning Point Building on 32nd Avenue South.

Opioid Response Coordinator Michael Dulitz says there has been a noticeable jump in overdose cases in Grand Forks in 2021.   He says police have responded to 54 OD’s – with as many as six deaths.  That’s nearly double what occurred last year.

Dulitz says with first responders carrying Naloxone many OD’s avoid a trip to the emergency room.

The needle exchange program is averaging around 15 clients per month and has distributed over 97-hundred syringes this year.

Community Medical Services hopes to be up and running within 30 to 60 days.
