A Fargo caregiver has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the death of a memory care facility patient.

Fifty-nine-year-old Rachel Cooper was arrested on Aug. 3rd after allegedly assaulting 78-year-old Gary Pearson at Maple View Memory Care in Fargo.

Pearson died Aug. 19th.

Cooper was charged with manslaughter and endangering a vulnerable adult. Both are Class B felonies.

According to a criminal complaint, Cooper was cleaning Pearson’s bathroom…and the two apparently struggled over the bathroom door.  Cooper told police that Pearson was keeping her from leaving the bathroom, so she pushed Pearson with one arm, causing him to trip and fall

Cooper’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 24th.
