Supporters of a plan to bring a Career Impact Academy to Grand Forks have narrowed their site selection to the former Holiday Inn location off Gateway Drive. The soon-to-be razed motel was one of four possible sites being considered. The others included: Red River High School…a business park location…and Alerus Center property.
Grand Forks Executive Director of CTE and Technology Eric Ripley told school board members this week that the former Inn has a lot of pluses. “It has great proximity to industry…UND…a corridor on Highway 2 to Devils Lake and East Grand Forks and Northland. There’s room for expandability and there is existing infrastructure. One other thing is the site has been identified by the city for in-kind donation.”
Officials are working on an application to secure upwards of $10 million dollars in state funding to support the project. The state deadline for round two funding is December 1st.
