State Senator Mark Johnson of East Grand Forks is now the acting majority leader of the Minnesota Senate, after Paul Gazelka resigned on Wednesday.

In a social media post, Johnson says he is humbled, adding: “It’s an absolute honor to be selected by my Senate leadership colleagues.”

Johnson says he will fill the post until a new leader is elected.

Johnson was elected to the Senate in 2016.

Gazelka is considering a run for governor, and is expected to announce his decision after Labor Day.
