The Grand Forks council could be asked to endorse a resolution of support on the school district’s bid for a ten mill bump in the building fund.
School leaders outlined nearly $261 million dollars of facility needs during a joint meeting with the council last night (Monday). The district will ask voters next month to support a ten mill “ask” to help chip away at some 790 maintenance projects.
Board member Amber Flynn says having city support would help the cause.
Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski says it’s important to look to the future in solving some of these problems. “I don’t think I’ve been more disheartened in the short time I have been mayor than to look at the situation our schools are in.”
In June 54% of voters supported the ten mill increase – but it fell short of the short of the super majority needed for passage. The election date is September 28th.
