Order helps ease restrictions for haulers during drought

By Doug Barrett Aug 16, 2021 | 8:19 AM

Gov. Doug Burgum has signed an order aimed at helping livestock producers battle extreme drought conditions across North Dakota.

The order waives hours of service restrictions for drivers of commercial vehicles that are transporting hay, water and livestock. Producers have been forced to sell off parts of their herds or supplement their supplies because they’re running short on water and feed. The order allows commercial haulers to move additional food and water that producers need to maintain their herds and make it easier for ranchers to move their herds.

The latest picture from the U.S. Drought Monitor rates 46% of the state in extreme drought and 38% in severe drought.
