By Doug Barrett Jul 29, 2021 | 10:19 AM

The FAA continues to investigate the crash of a small plane near Larimore this past weekend.

The Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the Larimore Airport around 7:30 Saturday morning on a report of suspicious activity.  The reporting party heard sounds of a plane taking off and minutes later what sounded like a crash.

A short time later the 1976 Piper Super Cub was found nose down in a line of trees south of County Road 4.   The GFSO identified the pilot as Todd Yahna.  He was transported by private vehicle to Sanford Hospital in Fargo for an injured knee.  A passenger – Paul Mutch – suffered a laceration above his right eye.  Both men also cuts and scrapes on their arms and legs.

According to the GFSO the two men were heading to Northwood but the plane failed to gain altitude…began to bank left…and failed to reach speeds able to clear the trees.
