The Grand Forks School Board reviewed staff plans for selling the former West School building last night (Monday). West was closed to students in February 2020 due to elevated radon levels and mold. The building was officially closed by the board in April.
Business Manager Scott Berge says all school related materials…items…and valuable equipment have been removed from the site. Berge says the district is looking to advertise the property for three weeks and collect sealed bids.
Superintendent Terry Brenner says ultimately any sale will be a board decision.
The district is planning a celebration of West Elementary School on August 18th.

The second round of summer school in Grand Forks begins next week. Students in grades 1 through 8…as well as the intro to Kindergarten class…will find masks are optional when they return to the classroom. It’s the same policy high school students faced when they hit the books in June – and there were no positive COVID cases during that five week span.
Superintendent Terry Brenner told school board members last night (Monday) the August session may serve as a “litmus test” as they prepare for the 2021-22 academic year.
Brenner says a decision about masks moving forward will be made next month prior to the start of the regular school year.

The board also approved setting a September 28th special election date to ask voters for a ten mill increase in the building fund. A majority of voters in June supported the tax hike – but it fell short of the 60% majority for passage.
