Grand Forks leaders will continue to hold discussions with SeaQuest officials in an effort to bring the interactive animal ecosystem aquarium to town. The proposed site for the 17,000 square foot facility would be in the former Kmart building at the Grand Cities Mall.
In order the make the move SeaQuest is seeking some financial assistance. City Administrator Todd Feland says local investment could be up to one-million dollars. “everyone is looking at opportunities to drive traffic to their sites.”
Company CEO Vince Covino says he believes SeaQuest would quickly become the number one destination in Grand Forks – attracting 300,000 visitors per year. “The economic impact is around $15 million dollars a year.”
Covino says his company is “Amazon proofing” economies because it’s an experience you can’t buy online.
The city council gave the “concept” an initial thumbs up.
