Part of a plan to bring a Career and Technical Education Center to Grand Forks may involve the purchase and demolition of the former Grand Forks Inn & Suites Motel. The Grand Forks Growth Fund Committee looked at the project last night (Monday) and sent it on the JDA for further review.
The recommendation would see the JDA purchase the property from American Bank Center in Bismarck for $450,000 dollars. City staff have received a quote for asbestos abatement and removal at a cost of just over $269,000 dollars.
Council President Dana Sande says the cost to improve the site will only go up.
Mayor Brandon Bochenski says whether a CTE project materializes or not – the site needs help.
The deadline to apply for up to $10 million in state matching funds for a CTE is October 1st.

The Grand Forks School Board has also voiced support for the CTE concept but raised questions about funding and the long-term sustainability of the project.
