The Grand Forks Growth Fund Committee will get its first look Monday at a plan that could lead to the purchase and demolition of the former Grand Forks Inn & Suites Motel. The Inn at 1210 North 43rd Street has been vacant and is no longer occupied.
According to a staff report the JDA would purchase the property from American Bank Center in Bismarck for $450,000 dollars. City staff have received a quote for asbestos abatement and removal at a cost of $269,150 dollars. The GF Assessing Department has the property valued at over $1,000,000 dollars.
If the project moves forward the bid to demolish the vacant motel could be completed later this year. The 5.7 acre parcel would then be open to redevelopment – including as a site for a potential Grand Forks Career & Technical Education Center. CTE Centers are designed to provide students with training to address workforce vacancies across the region.
The 2021 legislature set aside $70 million dollars in federal CARES money for school districts to apply for matching funds to stand up a Career Academy. The Grand Forks School Board will hear a presentation on the CTE program on Tuesday. The deadline to apply for grant funding is October 1st.
