Columbia and University slated due to construction

By Doug Barrett Jul 14, 2021 | 1:01 PM

One of the busier intersections in Grand Forks will be closed to traffic for about a week starting on Thursday.  Construction crews will block off the Columbia Road/University Avenue crossing for concrete paving.

The $5.5 million dollar reconstruction of North Columbia road stretches from the Overpass to north of University Avenue.  The stretch carries upwards of 19,000 vehicles per day.

The project includes new pavement…sidewalks/bikepaths…traffic signals…street lights…upgrading the pedestrian underpass…and replacing a section of sanitary sewer forcemain.  The existing road was constructed in 1983.

When completed traffic will switch over to the new pavement so work can begin on the southbound lanes.  There is no pedestrian access across Columbia Road.  All pedestrians must use the skywalk at 2nd Avenue to cross Columbia Road.
