The housing landscape on the University of North Dakota is about to undergo a major change.
UND leaders laid out the plan to the State Board of Higher Education on Tuesday. The project involves removing McVey and West Halls in favor of a new complex…renovating Brannon…and upgrading Selke and Noren to target students seeking more affordable housing options.
UND President Andy Armacost says it puts a greater focus on Wilkerson Hall. Armacost adds the new housing is long overdue. “This is a major and necessary construction project that ties to opur long-range campus master plan.”
Vice President of Finance Jed Shivers says the ten year goal is to also phase out and replace apartments on the west edge of the campus.
Shivers says the project reduces the UND housing footprint by one-million square feet and eliminates $211 million dollars in deferred maintenance.
The board unanimously approved a resolution allowing UND to continue to advance the plan. Additional approval will be sought at the NDUS meeting in July.
