Voters rejected a pair of money “asks” by the Grand Forks School District in Tuesday’s election. By a three to one margin residents said “no” to an $86 million dollar bond to fund a series of facility needs – including a new K-8 campus at Valley Middle School. The final tally was 1,658 “yes” and 3,758 “no” votes.
The second question would have increased the school building fund from 10 to 20 mills. The majority of voters supported the tax bump – but it fell short of the 60% majority needed to pass. The final vote was 2,942 “yes” to 2,476 “no” votes.
Business Manager Scott Berge (burr-gee) says he was happy to see a good turnout but it was not the outcome they were hoping for. “Did not know what to expect as there has not been a public (school) vote in the last 35ish years in Grand Forks.”
The results are unofficial. A special board meeting to canvass the results is set for June 28th.
