Altru still eyeing fall construction startup

By Doug Barrett Jun 21, 2021 | 8:16 AM

Altru is still working to jump-start its stalled hospital project in Grand Forks this fall.  The health system paused the project last year due to the pandemic.  In February Altru announced a restart with a 2024 completion date.

Altru officials say they are working with contractors and subcontractors to be back on site by October.  Between now and then effort to “tweak” design plans continue.  Those details could be released as soon as next month.  Officials say they were able to secure the hospital site when it was paused so they won’t have to complete any re-work.

When the project broke ground in June 2019 the plans called for a $305 million dollar seven story structure.  Financing includes a combination of municipal bonds…cash…and philanthropic support.
