North Dakota Game and Fish biologists stocked 60 lakes across the state with northern pike fingerlings this spring. The fingerlings are raised at the Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery to about 3 weeks old. At stocking time they are a little over 1 inch long – but by fall they can approach 19 inches and by next summer may be 2 or more pounds.
Fishing holes near Grand Forks that received a boost include the Niagra Dam stocked with 100 northern pike…Kolding Dam 1,700…Fordville Dam 24,000…and 34,000 in Golden Lake.
Other waters that were part of this year’s stocking program include: 372 Rainbow Trout in Ryan Pond and 700 in the Turtle River. Larimore Dam received 10,000 walleye and Matejcek Dam around 20,000.
