GF events seek CARES funding

By Doug Barrett Jun 15, 2021 | 8:51 AM

The Grand Forks council gave tentative approval last night to tapping unused CARES Act money to help fund a pair of downtown events this summer.

Under the plan $50,000 would go to assist the Downtown Development Association with an Obelisk Event Series and $100,000 to subsidize the Greenway Takeover Festival.  Staff recommended the one-time expenditure due to the financial stress placed on groups organizing events as a result of the pandemic.

Council member Katie Dachtler says she likes the idea – but questions whether there are better uses of the money.

The council vowed to seek additional input before giving final approval to the funding request at next Monday’s regular council meeting.
